1. Pick up a SSK (Seek Scavenge Knit!) button & a scavenger hunt flyer to get started.
(Buttons & flyers available at all stores. Or print the flyer and get a button when you arrive.)

2. Solve the clue and collect a stamp at each individual store

3. At the last store turn in your flyer with completed answers and stamps to be entered in drawing for prize(s)!

Joint us Friday Evening for Drinks & Dress-up!

Part workshop and part dress-up party – Julie will have 40 + sweaters knitted in a variety of sizes for people to try on. There will be a short talk on what to look for and avoid when choosing patterns for your body type. Then everyone can try on the sweaters from the trunk show and give each other feedback on what works, what doesn’t and why!

Saturday
CocoKnit-Along
9:30 – 11:30am
Free Event!

Come pick your favorite Cocoknits pattern and get Julie’s help picking out the yarn to make the sweater your own! Get advice on required techniques and issues to watch out for when knitting the pattern and try on the sweater sample to see up front how your finished project will look!

Seamless Sweater Construction
12:30am – 3:30pm
Fee: $ 55

Do you hate seaming sweaters? This class will teach you how to transform a seamed sweater pattern into a seamless pattern. We will use the Gisela pattern from cocoknits and go through the pattern in class to transform it into seamless construction featuring set-in sleeves and English Tailored shoulders.

1. You will learn how to pull the relevant numbers out of the written pattern and plot them onto a spread sheet and use this as your pattern.
2. You will learn how that chart allows you to combine fronts, sleeves and back to knit the yoke seamlessly.
3. You will learn how to finish the shoulders using English Tailoring.

Once you have learned on this sweater pattern you should be able to transform other patterns!

European Finishing Techniques
10am – 12noon
Fee: $45

Julie learned to knit in Europe and owned a ready-to-wear sweater company in the 80’s. This class covers the tips and techniques that she picked up along the way.

This is an information packed class. Julie will have swatches so everyone can try the techniques we discuss but it’s helpful if students bring a couple of working swatches, about 20 sts wide with couple of inches stockinette st knitted on US6 or larger needles.

Class covers basics like selvage sts, inc, dec and also special techniques like a provisional CO with a second circ needle, using a YO or safety-pin (Japanese method) for short row shaping, binding off neatly in the middle of a row (for a neckline), bias bind off for multiple BO, blocking, seaming and neatly picking up stitches along a button-band or neckline. If time allows the class will cover a bit of designing, as well.

Habu Yarn Tasting (in cooperation with Takako of Habu Yarns)
1pm – closing
Fee: $ 25+ $10 – $20 materials fee

In this class you will have a chance to swatch with a variety of Habu yarns, combining two, three or even four strands to see what textures you come up with. You can swatch with stainless steel, copper, raw silk, pineapple, nettle, as well as wool, cotton and linen. While you are swatching, Julie will discuss where and how to use the different textures with examples from her trunk show. Students should bring a few sizes of needles focusing on sizes they prefer to knit with.

Habu Trunk Show
April 6 & 7th during regular Shop Hours

Come and meet Takako of Habu yarns! She is bringing a wonderful selection of samples worked up with her stunning line of unusual yarns for you to touch or try on. Kits will be available for order all weekend for trunk show projects.

Be sure to also check out the Habu Yarn Tasting for a chance to try working with a range of her fibers and get ideas for ways to make the most of these textural yarns.

The Anna Cowl and Swan’s Island

We’ve long been a fan of Swan’s Island yarns here at Hill Country Weavers. They have a great message – all natural, all organic, all done in the US – and an equally wonderful product with a beautiful and incredibly soft range of yarns. We’ve got the Swan’s Island Worsted and Swan’s Island Lace yarns in the shop today (with some of their delicious fingering weight on the way as well so keep an eye out!).

New in the shop is also a great sample using the Swan’s Island Worsted; the Anna Cowl

And just in time for this weekend’s cold front! There’s everything to love about this cowl – its simple enough for an adventurous beginner but with enough details to keep the more seasoned knitter interested and its a perfect project to highlight the delicate color variations that occur in Swan’s Island naturally dyed yarn.

Thanks to everyone that came to this year’s Best Little Yarn Crawl in Texas! We had a fantastic event and can’t thank you all enough for making this such a huge crawl!

Tosh & Nosh!

That’s right, we’ve got Amy Hendrix, president of Madelinetosh yarns coming out this weekend!

Come by Friday night to check out the Madelinetosh trunk show – a great showcase of ideas for what to make with all your wonderful tosh yarns – and meet the woman behind this beautiful line of hand-dyed yarns.

We’ll have snacks & drinks to nosh and of course lots of tosh!

She will be in the store Friday October 12 from 6-8pm to come meet all her Austin fans so be sure to stop in and say hello!

Amy will also be teaching 2 session of her Color Theory Workshop on Saturday. Spaces are currently filled but if you’d like to be placed on the waitlist for any last minute openings please give us a call!
